Tom is an experienced Chief Financial Officer and business consultant working with small- to mid-size organizations to reorganize and bring them to sustainability. He earned his Masters in Accountancy from DePaul University and passed the Illinois Uniform Certified Public Accounting exam. He recently completed his PhD in Management at Walden University. His dissertation topic was examining how benefit corporations govern over executive compensation given the dual mission objectives – social and financial.
Given his work in accounting and management, he believes that people are an integral part of an organizational culture. In benefit corporations, traditional business metrics are important, such as sales, product quality, and expense control, yet the social mission is largely driven by the innovation, creativity, and “doing business right” perspective of directors, executives, and employees. Organizations that are accountable and responsible for consideration of all stakeholders are positioned to fulfill both the social and the financial mission.
Tom continues to research organizations with a dual mission and to expand his own learning. He is currently working on the Financial Sustainability Accountant (Level 1) credential to provide greater depth of understanding of accounting regulations related to performance. His research focus continues to be pay-for-performance and related executive compensation structures and reward systems in dual mission companies.
